"It is the nature of EVA type footwear manufacturing that you end up with extra pairs that miss the mark on being acceptable for commerce - such as inaccurate sizing, color or cosmetics - but these are still great shoes! For Telic cause worthy repurposing of these extras has become a major initiative", explained Aaron Azzarito, Marketing VP of Telic.
"We were very fortunate enough to meet a gentleman named Michael Dare at a trade show in Orlando, who basically volunteered to spearhead our Telic repurposing program through various non-profit organizations worldwide", added Terry Stillman, co-CEO of Telic.
In 2016 Telic partnered with Key Of Hope in Durban, South Africa. Key of Hope operates with a staff of 23, in eight different squatter camps and two black township areas, with more than 1,200 children being visited at home each week. Many of the children do not have shoes, and Telic was able to donate over two thousand pair most significantly for the purpose of protecting them from deadly illegal electrical wires that are a major hazard in that area.
In 2017 Telic focused its repurposing efforts closer to home, partnering with the American Legion in Pontiac Michigan & Grand Rapids Home For Veterans where hundreds of ailing and less fortunate U.S. military veterans were given some extra comfort and support through a pair of Telic.
When the major hurricanes hit in the fall of 2017 there was still an inventory of Telic that needed repurposing. Telic was eager to help, but logistics seemed to be a challenge. Finally in February 2018, Telic was able to partner with Faith Baptist Christian Academy from Ludowici, Georgia who distributed a truck full of Telic at centers around the island of Puerto Rico in the ongoing effort to help the victims of Hurricane Maria.
